I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. But I figured going back to sleep and being late to Mrs. Maus's house would put me in a worse mood than just getting up. Anyway, work was fine. She was getting really irritated trying to edit pictures and work with an online store she's making for one her clients. I helped her as much as I could. "Maybe you can crop the picture?" "How did you get it to work last time?" "You know, you can make it bold by putting in the HTML tags." She's using the built-in editor thing, which makes it twice as hard because you can't just stick things where you want them to go. On the other hand, the layout is already done.

I have so many bug bites, all over my arms and legs (and hands and feet!) from sitting outside last night. I've had chicken pox twice. Yeah, I didn't know that was possible either until I got them the second time. And both cases were just mild enough that if I get exposed to the virus, I could get them again. Can you imagine the embarrassment? A seventeen-year-old home from school with chicken pox. But that's what it feels like now. I'm okay most of the time; I can even look (with dismay) at the bites and not need to scratch them. And my tan is dark enough so the redness isn't as obvious. But they look kinda nasty, even to me. And I know my parents will wonder what could possibly have drawn me outside long enough to be a bug buffet. I don't plan on telling them. (Ahem. I'm not getting any less vague about last night's activities than that.)

I started (just barely) reading Pride and Prejudice today. It looks like a pretty good book. Maybe I should have bought it. Eh. I tried sitting on the porch to read. That's my usual summer reading spot, and I braved the bugs again. (See, this way, if my parents ask how I got the bites, I can say I was outside. If they ask what I was doing, I was reading. So what if I didn't get all these bites from reading outside?) I only lasted for about twenty minutes before I got too hot. I just can't read in my room. I have to sit on my bed, and then I keep shifting to find a comfortable position. It's very distracting.

My grandma came over tonight; she brought me lasagna. Well, the whole thing wasn't for me, but I had some for dinner (and about half of the garlic bread... mmm). She called me this morning (I was in the shower) and left a message: "I know you're not a baby, but I just wanted to check up on you." I love my grandma. She's the one that got me started putting sugar in my Cheerios.

Despite the occasional boredom, I'm glad I decided to work with Mrs. Maus this summer. Getting out of the house for part of the day has almost totally alleviated my sit-around-the-house blues. (Mykella, I felt your pain. Get a job if you can. And look now, because a lot of people are already into their summer jobs by now.) Even cutting clippings from Investor's Business Daily isn't as boring as you'd imagine. It profiles different companies (Coach and Starbucks and Aeropostale and dozens more I've never heard of), and there's this great section called "Leaders and Success." I clip out the quotes I like (which are my latest ones to rotate in the sidebar there) and read the profiles that catch my eye: the guy that started Kraft Foods, one of the Roosevelts, Serena Williams, the guy responsible for the prevalence of DVDs. Not a bad way to pass the time. And I get to play with her cats.

Edit: Just updated the links page, and added borders to the blog and sidebar, headings to the sidebar sections, and a "currently" section.
