Need an ego boost? Try the
Automatic Flatterer. It works best if you're female. I got the link in a chain email (otherwise known as a forward) from my classmate Laniera (from Flowers, last year.) Try it -- I did it twice!
Nothing of great interest happened today. More trivia with Mr. T this morning, but this time it was stuff I could actually answer. One of the questions was about a classical piece composed by Dukas. I said, "The Sorceror's Apprentice," which was right. He gave me that "okay" that means, like, "didn't think you'd know that." I told him I learned it from the Mickey Mouse cartoon. That song's on the Fantasia 2000 soundtrack (one of two classical CDs I own; the other is the CoS soundtrack -- thanks Nik!). He laughed, and I pointed out that it really doesn't matter where you learn something, as long as you learn it. Cartoons, The Simpsons, the Washington Post comics, it's all good.
Executed plan of less PDA. Do not feel as rude. Will attempt to keep PDA at same level when in public (which is to say, all the time). We didn't do much actual work today. Avondet was out again, which meant more boring sub work, but also avoiding robot project. I used to like that class. Now, it kinda sucks. Presentations tomorrow in Lifsey's class, which should be
really boring, totally unnecessary, and take away time I could use to finish my CAD drawing. Did nothing in Trig. Sometimes Ms. Dixon just doesn't feel like teaching. We watched a very fuzzy episode of "Dr. Phil", the guy from Oprah. Dr. J gave us practice tests for Thursday. I did it while I was sitting in class. I think that's the first practice test where I actually understood everything. It's the homework that's killing me.
Why did they have to put us all in AP Physics? I don't think I'd have understood
regular physics!
I finished another book in Trig today:
Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli. I saw it on Rajni's book list, and then it was in Borders and looked interesting, so I read it. Dude. That is definitely one of the best books I've ever read. It's the second book I've read by Jerry Spinelli (the first was
Maniac Magee, back when I was in Germany; it won the Newbery). I was so moved by it, it's part of my current quotage.
Stargirl is (on the surface) about a boy, Leo, and the mysterious new girl who goes by "Stargirl" who waltzes into his world, steals his heart, and changes his life. When you look deeper, though, the book is really about conformity and being true to yourself. The story is perfectly paced, and beautifully written. I love it when a book makes me want to laugh, smile, and almost cry. This one did. Read it. Up next:
On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God, the second book about Georgia Nicholson and sequel to
Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, both by Louise Rennison.
[A side note: For those of you that don't already know, or haven't figured it out yet, when I say PDA, I don't mean personal digital assistant (like a Palm Pilot). I mean public display of affection, which covers everything from hand-holding to making out in the hallways. Just wanted to clarify.]
I turned in my application for the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Program this morning. They extended the deadline due to snow, but that was cool cause it covered for my Post-It-reliant brain. (I forgot it yesterday, when it was originally due.) Still haven't written the ASYMCA essay. Calliope, where are you when I need you?
