I love MTV, comedy, and Avril Lavigne. And even more so when I get a large dose of them all in one day. See, earlier I was watching TRL on MTV -- the same thing I do every day at 1:00. I was listening when it first came on, to see who was hosting (Damien's my new favorite), and I didn't recognize the voice. Then, they showed today's host on screen. It looked like Carson (Daly, the original host). I was so shocked when I realized that it was really Jimmy Fallon, dressed up like Carson! He just talked through the show's opening, with all the audience screaming behind him. (I, of course, was trying not to fall off the bed from laughing too hard.) Then, Jimmy yells at the audience to shut up. And they do. It's dead quiet in the studio (which hardly ever happens) and he says, "Hi, I'm Carson Daly, and I'm a massive tool." He does a
really good Carson impression, I swear. He was really on the show to promote his new CD and premiere his video,
Idiot Boyfriend. (Not the best song, but absolutely hilarious.) Jimmy and Carson did the whole show together, dressed exactly alike. Jimmy was a lot like Adam Sandler (whom he impersonated): kind of shy, and funny without really trying. It was a good show.
I just finished watching
Avril Lavigne: Live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on MTV. It was awesome. She's an incredible singer, and she writes the best songs. It's like, Britney who? The first time I really listened to
Complicated, I was amazed at how soulful and powerful it was. The lyrics are so honest, and one line from the chorus really stuck out:
Tell me/ Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated? I hope to get her CD soon, and that she has a long career, with lots of awesome songs. I couldn't stand it if she wound up on that VH1 show,
One Hit Wonders. She's way too good for that. :)
